As an addition or alternative to the regular Three Peaks Trial we're creating an event for those who'd like to do a Great Challenge between Three Peaks Trials. This will involve climbing three designated mountains, one each in Wales, England and Scotland. Then on Saturday, 13th November 2021 we'll have a gathering at a venue TBA in Abergavenny where there’ll be a buffet (£5 extra) and bar with handing out certificates (Bronze for one peak, Silver for two peaks and Gold for three peaks) and an award for the first person to complete. The three peaks chosen for 2021 by the organizing committee are:
Wales ‐ Cader Idris
England ‐ Helvellyn
Scotland ‐ Ben Lomond
Other details:
The peaks can be completed at any time and in any order between 1st April and 31st October 2021.
To prove a 'summit bagged' a 'selfie' must be emailed to the organisers of a selfie of the walkers at the trig point with one of the day's newspapers together with enough background details to prove the location.
Suggested walk routes will be emailed to entrants.
50% of entry fees will go to Longtown Mountain Rescue Team 40% will go to 'green' charities to offset the fuel used by walkers in travelling to the peaks and 10% will go to Cardiff Outdoor Group to offset the losses from the pandemic causing the cancellation of the 2020 event (once the losses are reimbursed the remainder will also be given to charity). Walkers are also welcome to use the event to raise funds for a charity of their choice.
Those successfully completing one peak will get a '3PT Great Challenge Bronze; certificate, or a '3PT Great Challenge Silver certificate for two peaks and a '3PT Great Challenge Gold certificate for three peaks.
Entry fee includes: Pack of suggested walking routes; Route Card; Walk Risk Assessment Form; Certificate; entry to the event awards evening in Abergavenny on 13th November.
IRON ROUTE: Also those entering both the traditional Three Peaks Trial Gold Route and the new 3PT Great Challenge Gold Route will have completed the Three Peaks Trial Iron Route and will also receive a wooden medal displaying this achievement. To ensure safety:
