As an additional or alternative to the regular Three Peaks Trial we’re creating a club for those who’d like to do something between Three Peaks Trials. This will involve climbing three designated mountains, one each in Wales, England and Scotland. Then on Saturday, 14th November 2020 we’ll have a gathering of club members at a venue TBA in Abergavenny where there’ll be a buffet and drinks with handing out certificates (Bronze for 1 peak, Silver for 2 peaks and Gold for 3 peaks) and an award for the first person to complete. The three peaks chosen by the club organizing committee are:
Wales – Cader Idris
England – Helvellyn
Scotland – Ben Lomond
Other details: Club members can do the peaks whenever they wish in whatever order up until the 14th November. To prove a ‘summit bagged’ club members must email a ‘selfie’ of themselves with one of the day’s newspapers together with enough background details to prove the location. Suggested walk routes will be emailed to club members. 50% of club membership fees will go to Longtown Mountain Rescue Team, 30% will go to other charities and 20% will go to Cardiff Outdoor Group to offset the losses due to the cancellation of the 2020 event from the Coronavirus (once the losses are reimbursed the remainder will also be given to charity). To ensure safety:
The walks to the summits are only to be done in daylight.
Prior to each walk each entrant must email information to firstname.lastname@example.org on their proposed routes together with the date and start time of their walks.
Walkers must carry a mobile phone.
Walkers must carry the kit shown on http://threepeakstrial.btck.co.uk/EntryRequirements/EquipmentList also email confirmation that they will do this.
Walks must be done in minimum groups of three people.
Walkers must have Ordnance Survey Map reading skills and know how to navigate using a compass.
Walkers will be issued with information on how to complete a walk risk assessment. Prior to undertaking a walk up one of the mountains, walkers must submit a risk assessment of their chosen route.
At the end of their walk each entrant must phone 07429966593 to advise they have completed.
Walkers must be 18 or over.
