South Wales Valleys Walking Festival

Welcome to the sixth Wales Valleys Walking Festival - now a firmly established event in the walking calendar. This year there is even more on offer to tempt walkers of all abilities - rom walks for the serious enthusiast looking to stretch themselves whilst basking in the breathtaking beauty of the Valleys scenery to shorter walks suitable for the less experienced and for all the family. This is your opportunity to see just how spectacular the valleys of today are. These days you won't see a coal mine (unless it happens to be one of out tourism attractions!) but you will see a unique roller-coaster landscape of hills and vales dotted with friendly towns and villages. Our 2008 Walking Festival was a big hit - despite atrocious weather conditions on the run up to the festival. The 2010 festival promises to be bigger, better and brighter.! The festival - just like the Valleys - offers a mix of breathtaking beauty and fascinating heritage, introduced to you by experienced walk leaders who love to talk about the region. For further information on the 2010 festival visit our facebook group 'Wales Valleys Walking Festival' or email boxoffice@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk and we will keep you informed of news as it happens. Barmouth Walking Festival

9 days of guided walks around the Mawddach Estuary and Southern Snowdonia. This more recent addition to Barmouth's event's calendar grows from strength to strength. With 25 walks over 9 days, there are walks for all ranging from short 2 hour rambles to full day, high level hikes, all in some of the finest walking countryside in Wales.
The grades are:
A HARD - a walk that will have a number of areas that can place a demand on the physical and mental capability of the walker. There are a number of ascents/descents during the walk, the route at times will require careful navigation and foot placement. Steep ascents and declines, wet ground and distance contribute to the designation A. A new designation of "A+" has been used for even more challenging walks.
B MODERATE - a walk that will include one or two physically or mentally demanding stretches. There may be a number of quite severe ascents and descents which could be considered challenging.
C EASY - a walk that can be completed without undue stress or physical strain. Normally low level walks with easy escape routes to a village or town. A walk may be designated as 'Easy' though it could be demanding due to the distance and time taken to complete. Please note that all walks take place in the surrounding hills and involve some climbing. Tel: 01341 281565 Email: Davidclay@tiscali.co.uk
