The Three Peaks Trial is an organised challenge walk arranged each year in March by the Cardiff Outdoor Group. Since 2010 Longtown Mountain Rescue Team provide support with marshalls on all the mountain top checkpoints.

The Walk was first held in March 1963 and was designed for less experienced walkers who wanted to test their powers of endurance and skill at map reading. It is now the oldest challenge walk in the UK.

Over the years the event has been modified so in 2024 there is a choice of four other routes: PLATINUM ROUTE (17 miles), GOLD ROUTE (20miles), SILVER ROUTE (15 miles) and BRONZE ROUTE (10 miles)

First Finishers On Each Route:


The first walkers back on each route were:

Emily Marr, 28, Wiltshire and Colin Whittle, 34, both from Bath finished in a time of 5 hours 24 minutes.

(M) Leighton James, 46, from Oxford returned in a time of 4 hours 34 minute.
(F) Charlotte Brunsdon, 37, from London completed in a time of 5 hours 20 minutes.

(M) David Brunsdon, 69, from Cwmbran got back in a time of 4 hours 59 minutes.
(F) Georgina Bryant, 48, from Bath completed in a time of 6 hours 2 minutes.

(F) Julie White, 68, from Cardiff completed in a time of 4 hours 19 minutes.
(M) Michael Gearon, 30, from Cwmbran returned in a time of 4 hours 50 minutes.
